In 2009-2010 the housing market has never been more "local."

• The national melt-down in real estate varies by state and local economy. Essex County, NJ has some towns such as Montclair, Glen Ridge, the Caldwells, Nutley, Bloomfield, where the market is active and full of opportunities for buyers and sellers. Belleville right now is a great place for first time buyers. Towns with relative tax "bargains" such as Cedar Grove, Clifton, Little Falls are attractive to some buyers. But taxes are high everywhere and a fact of life in the vibrant North Jersey corridor.
  
• And today, October 1, the plan for weekend train service was announced on the Midtown Direct, aka Boonton Line. This makes the area even more desirable as a place to live. The NJ Transit train is one of life's small pleasures. And, the DeCamp bus is a very pleasant ride 7-days a week.
  
• Spend some time on www.baristanet.com. Gossipy and fun place to keep up on local issues. Covers all the towns we care about.
  
• Had dinner last night at Egan's Pub, Walnut St. My 21st wedding anniversary. We celebrated with an ice-cold martini. Soooo good.
